Background CLIMADA Technologies
Emerging from the academic research group of Weather & Climate Risk at ETH Zurich, CLIMADA Technologies is a spin-off of ETH Zurich and a globally operating climate risk analytics company bringing opportunity to climate adaptation. Our technology is built on CLIMADA, the open-source and global platform for probabilistic multi-hazard risk modeling and options appraisal.
CLIMADA Technologies delivers high-resolution physical risk analytics, integrating probabilistic hazard event sets with asset and vulnerability data to quantify both direct and indirect climate impacts. Through our Data-as-a-Service (DaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and bespoke risk analyses, we provide tailored solutions that support businesses and institutions in understanding and managing climate-related risks.
About the role
We`re seeking an enthusiastic and experienced DevOps and Software engineer to drive the development and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure, our data store, as well as our software code (API, web-platform, and underlying analytics backend) to deliver high stability and performance (REST API and interactive web platform).
In addition, you will support our international team of talented, highly motivated climate risk engineers and scientists to deliver high-performance climate analytics, including AI/ML applications. You will play a central role in driving the development and delivery of our physical climate risk solution offering to support corporate customers in understanding and managing their climate change related risks.
What you bring:
MSc or BSc or relevant experience in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems.
5+ years of proven software development, cloud architecture and/or data engineering & DevOps.
Experience in DevOps & building and maintaining automated infrastructure.
Solid understanding of and experience with large (> 1 TB) data lakes (databases as well as file object storage with file formats such as parquet) and backend API development, ideally in a cloud environment.
Experience of at least two of the following programming frameworks or similar, and willingness to learn others: Spring Boot 3 (Java), Angular 18 (Typescript + HTML + SCSS), Python.
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), geospatial analytics (from point-based to raster data), AI/ML, climate or meteorological data, and/or the open-source CLIMADA software or other Nat Cat models is a plus.
Passion, sense of responsibility and proactivity.
Your impact:
Opportunity to work in the core team building a world-class physical climate risk analytics platform, delta-climateTM.
Development of highly performant data stores in a cloud environment
Setup, improvement and debugging of our cloud-based infrastructure on AWS. Ensure performance, robustness and high availability
Design and write backend and frontend code that power our delta-climateTM platform
Develop and maintain internal software tooling
Assist climate risk scientists and engineers to turn their climate impact modeling code into an efficient and robust analytics backend
Identify bottlenecks and improve software and data pipelines efficiency, maintain and write tests for our products.
Troubleshoot and fix bugs
