Background CLIMADA Technologies
Emerging from the academic research group of Weather & Climate Risk at ETH Zurich, CLIMADA Technologies is a spin-off of ETH Zurich and a globally operating climate risk analytics company bringing opportunity to climate adaptation. Our technology is built on CLIMADA, the open-source and global platform for probabilistic multi-hazard risk modeling and options appraisal.
CLIMADA Technologies covers both acute and chronic hazards and expands the datasets available in the CLIMADA data API, which provides probabilistic hazard event sets at high spatial resolution for present as well as future climate conditions.
Marrying these hazard sets with individual asset and vulnerability data, CLIMADA Technologies generates detailed physical risk analytics spanning both direct and indirect impacts.
About the role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual with a passion for climate risk and adaptation to join us as a 3-month intern. In this role, you will focus on building a comprehensive database of vulnerability functions and adaptation measures across various geographical regions and economic sectors. This database will play a crucial role in expanding CLIMADA Technologies’ product capabilities and offerings, directly contributing to advancing climate resilience and adaptation solutions.
What you bring:
A solid understanding of climate science, climate adaptation and vulnerability assessment gained through a completed or ongoing MSc in disciplines such as meteorology, climatology, engineering or climate change impact studies.
A passion for climate risk and adaptation and a desire to make a tangible impact.
Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail.
Experience or interest in literature review, desk research, and data analysis (prior coursework or projects in these areas is a plus).
A self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
Sense of responsibility and proactivity.
Your impact:
Conducting desk research by reviewing scientific literature, reports, and datasets to identify and extract critical information on vulnerability, impacts, and adaptation measures.
Organizing and storing the extracted information in a structured, consistent, and harmonized database.
Performing exploratory data analysis to highlight key features of the database, including geographic regions, economic sectors, data granularity, and reference hazards.
Documenting the data collection process with detailed notes on sources, applicability, and limitations to ensure transparency and usability.
Compiling insights that will directly enhance CLIMADA Technologies’ products and solutions.
Collaboration with product and business development team, but also WCR Team at ETH Zurich.
We would like to offer you:
A unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a societally impactful field, working alongside a carefully selected team of passionate specialists who are deeply committed to their values, care about the planet, and strive to develop technology that emphasizes the vital role and impact of nature on our lives.
Our Team
We are an interdisciplinary, diverse team with complementary capabilities, adept in scaling technologies, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, climate and weather science, data science, natural catastrophe modeling, and risk planning and management.
